Spectra Group (UK) Ltd has been assisting the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in improving their strategic communications capabilities, particularly by optimising the use of Comtech’s Troposcatter Modular Transportable Transmission System (MTTS). The company has been providing training and familiarisation throughout March to ensure AFP personnel can fully utilise the system and develop the expertise required for its long-term maintenance.
Tropospheric scatter technology enables high-bandwidth communications by using the Troposphere, up to approximately 13 km in altitude. It operates independently of satellites and remains functional in GPS/GNSS-denied environments, making it suitable for use in complex operational scenarios. The technology has low latency and supports the transmission of large data volumes, which, along with its relatively low operating costs, makes it applicable from strategic to tactical headquarters. The MTTS system is designed for high-power operations, with a typical output of 500W, and offers flexibility, rapid deployment, and modularity. For the AFP, these capabilities enhance mobility and resilience in challenging environments, ensuring reliable voice, data, and video communications where traditional infrastructure is lacking.
Spectra Group acquired the global distribution rights for Comtech’s Troposcatter Family of Systems in 2024, excluding the USA, Canada, and Mexico, where Comtech retains distribution. To strengthen its presence in the Asia-Pacific region, the company opened an office in Australia late last year.
