The Turkish shipbuilder STM Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik ve Ticaret A.Ş (STM) is participating at the ongoing show and eyeing greater regional success. STM is showcasing its naval platforms and tactical mini UAV systems with the aim of gaining a greater foothold in the Southeast Asian defence market. Malaysia is vitally important to STM as it marks Türkiye’s first and only corvette export to the Asia-Pacific region in Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) orders for three Malaysian Corvettes (Littoral Mission Ship Batch-2). STM announced the commencement of work, this April, on the construction of three corvettes for the Royal Malaysian Navy. The keel laying ceremony for the project was held at the Istanbul Shipyard. The new warships will allow the RMN to perform a wide range of maritime defence missions effectively. Based on STM’s ADA-Class design, a platform that has proven its effectiveness in international waters, all three corvettes will be delivered by the end of 2027. STM is undertaking the ship design, project management (including construction management), material/system procurements, integration design and assembly, testing and Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) activities, as well as the preparation of the design and ILS documents related to the project.
Emphasizing on the strong defence and security cooperation between Türkiye and Malaysia, STM General Manager Özgür Güleryüz stated, “As STM, we are proud to have marked Türkiye’s first corvette export to the Asia-Pacific region by developing three corvettes based on the Ada-Class design for the Royal Malaysian Navy. The construction of these corvettes began in Istanbul last year and continues successfully. In addition to our commitment to the Turkish Navy, we aim to remain a reliable partner for navies ranging from Portugal and Ukraine to Malaysia and Pakistan. Guided by our vision of introducing innovative and flexible defense solutions to the world, we are honored to participate in the Malaysia LIMA Fair. At this event, we will showcase a groundbreaking, multi-mission naval platform design for the first time. Furthermore, through the strategic partnerships we plan to establish, we aim to increase our collaboration in the Southeast Asian region. With our expanding global presence, we are determined to strengthen strategic cooperation opportunities in Malaysia and neighbouring countries.”
At the ongoing event, STM is displaying models of its other naval projects, such as Türkiye’s national frigate project I-Class Frigate (TCG ISTANBUL), Portuguese Navy - Auxiliary Oiler Replenisher and Logistics Ship, the STM MPAC Multi-Purpose Attack Craft and the STM500 Submarine. The company will also unveil a new naval platform design for the first time. The company, which has played a pioneering role in the development tactical mini UAVs, is presenting its Kargu platform at the event. As Türkiye’s first national attack UAV, Kargu has been exported to more than 10 countries on three continents since its launch. The attack drone can be equipped with anti-personnel and armour-piercing warheads. Also being displayed by STM is its TOGAN Surveillance UAV and BOYGA ammunition-drop UAV. The former is already in the inventory of the Turkish Armed Forces and is also achieving remarkable export figures
