Malaysia’s Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) sealed contracts at the recent LIMA 2025 worth up to RM11 billion, involving 40 contracts/LOAs, two LOIs worth RM30 million and above awarded to companies for MINDEF procurement projects from late 2023 to the present, and six MoUs between MINDEF and selected strategic partners. A further 45 procurement contracts valued between RM10 million and RM30 million had previously been listed and signed.
Among significant agreements under negotiation is MINDEF's procurement of 136 Armoured Type A Vehicles (KJA) and related infrastructure from Mildef Technologies, with an estimated project value of RM1.8 billion. These negotiations represent a crucial step in maximizing the Malaysian Army's operational readiness while supporting domestic defence industrial capacity building.
The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) is prioritising vessel acquisition and lifecycle maintenance through refit and obsolescence programmes (OP) to maintain fleet readiness despite ageing assets. Local industry partnerships under Industrial Collaboration Programs (ICP) and transfer of knowledge simultaneously enable skills transfer and technical competency development for RMN personnel through joint maintenance initiatives.
MINDEF also stated that it remains committed to national airspace security through enhanced air defence assets, including the Royal Malaysian Air Force's (RMAF) acquisition of long-range detection systems. Sustainment operations are strengthened via systematic spare parts procurement, while financial constraints are addressed through alternative solutions like aircraft life-extension programmes and leasing arrangements to maintain optimal defence readiness.
Alongside strategic defence asset procurement, MINDEF continues to prioritize the welfare of military personnel. Among the priority projects is the construction of a new Armed Forces Hospital (94 HAT) at Kem Terendak, Melaka, to replace the existing facility, which has been operational for over 50 years.
The new hospital is expected to feature state-of-the-art medical facilities and cutting-edge equipment to better serve the healthcare needs of Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) personnel.
