Combat ships, precision fire systems, radars, logistics systems, helicopters, fighter aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, and an inventory and asset management system for the Qatar Armed Forces are among the products and technologies that Lockheed Martin showcased at DIMDEX 2018.
“Lockheed Martin is at DIMDEX to discuss mission readiness challenges and the solutions we can offer to stay a step ahead,” Andy Winns, Regional Executive and General Manager for the Middle-East and Africa region at Lockheed Martin, told Daily News. “Our technologies span global security and civil systems, and we are also providing some innovative logistics and unmanned systems that complement tried-and-true platforms.”
PAC-3 missiles, which can defeat tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and aircraft, are the interceptors of choice for both the Patriot and Medium Extended Air Defence Systems MEADS). The upgraded PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement expands the lethal battlespace with a two-pulse solid rocket motor, providing increased performance in altitude and range.
Another in the family of hit-to-kill missile defence systems is the THAAD, which serves as a layer of defence between PAC-3 and Aegis and is the only system in the world designed to intercept threats inside and outside the atmosphere. Lockheed will also be promoting the use of the Miniature Hit-to-Kill (MHTK) interceptor that is built to defeat rockets, artillery and mortars via direct body-to-body impact.
“As the global security landscape becomes increasingly complex, our customers are looking for effective and efficient platforms, services and sustainment,” said Winns. “For example, missile defense is a key capability for Lockheed Martin, and we’re seeing interest from nations who want to learn more about the systems we offer.”
The military helicopters that the company is showcasing at the event are the MH-60R Seahawk and the Black Hawk multirole helicopter. Also on display will be the S-92 helicopter, which has more than one million fleet flight hours of service and is extensively used for and search and rescue missions as well as by executives and heads of state.
Also showcased by the company at DIMDEX was the new catapult-launched Fury Unmanned Aerial System (UAS), which has the largest payload capacity and volume among runway-independent UAS. The system can support any intelligence, surveillance reconnaissance and IEW requirement. The F-16 V Fighting Falcon, which boasts of various enhancements, will also be on display.
Qatar ERP, which is the company’ proposal for an inventory and asset management system for the Qatar Armed Forces, is designed not just to streamline the Qatar Armed Forces’ maintenance and logistics system and improve its efficiency but also to produce cost savings in operations and maintenance. A Qatari registered company will be a major sub-contractor.
