Republic of Singapore Navy Growing in Strength

: May 13, 2019 - : 12:57 pm

The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) is acquiring new capabilities and advanced next-generation platforms and remains a small but highly sophisticated and well-trained maritime force. As part of its submarine force renewal programme, the RSN is acquiring four Type 218SG submarines, which will result in improved operational and combat capabilities.

The First of four fully customised Invincible-class submarines was launched this year. Delivery is expected from 2021 onwards. The RSN will also have all eight Littoral Mission Vessels operational by 2020. The first five ships were quickly deployed for operations and exercises upon commissioning.

The navy’s new Multi-Role Combat Vessels are to replace the Victory-class Missile Corvettes by 2030 and will expand the RSN’s surveillance and influence with unmanned systems. These new warships will be quickly configurable for different types of missions, further increasing their operational effective- ness.

The RSN is to also induct new Joint Multi-Mission Ships, which will replace Endurance-class Landing Ships and provide greater lift capacity and command platform capabilities.
