Thai Airways has confirmed the selection of Trax and Aerostrat, both subsidiaries of the American aviation services giant AAR Corp, to spearhead a comprehensive digital transformation of its maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) operations. The flag carrier will implement the Trax eMRO enterprise resource planning system alongside a suite of eMobility applications and cloud hosting solutions. This technical migration is designed to replace legacy paper-based workflows with real-time data access, streamlining the airline’s global maintenance network and enhancing decision-making capabilities for its engineering teams.
The agreement also includes the deployment of Aerostrat’s Aerros software, an advanced maintenance planning tool intended to optimise long-range maintenance forecasting. By integrating these platforms, Thai Airways aims to maximise fleet availability and improve turnaround times as it prepares for a significant increase in operational scale. The software package features artificial intelligence-driven solutions for automated defect resolution and workflow management, which the airline expects will set new regional benchmarks for efficiency and safety.
The partnership was first reported by PR Newswire, following an official announcement from AAR Corp in early January 2026. According to these sources, the move represents a critical component of the airline’s broader strategy to modernise its technical infrastructure. Andrew Schmidt, Senior Vice President of AAR Digital Services, noted that the suite of products will assist the carrier in reducing operational costs while increasing overall productivity.
The digital overhaul arrives at a pivotal moment for Thai Airways as it emerges from a successful business rehabilitation process. The airline recently unveiled a five-year investment strategy valued at approximately 170 billion Thai baht (US$4.92 billion), with 120 billion baht (US$3.47 billion) dedicated specifically to fleet modernisation. This ambitious plan aims to nearly double the airline's fleet to 150 aircraft by 2033. In the Asia Pacific region, where air traffic growth is outpacing global averages, the ability to manage a rapidly expanding fleet with high-precision digital tools is seen as a major competitive advantage.
Beyond its own fleet requirements, Thai Airways is positioning itself as a dominant MRO provider in Southeast Asia. The carrier is currently advancing plans for a new MRO centre in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) at U-Tapao Airport, a project valued at roughly 10 billion baht (US$289.4 million). This facility is intended to provide heavy maintenance services that were previously outsourced to regional hubs like Singapore. By adopting the Trax and Aerostrat ecosystem, Thai Airways is building the digital foundation required to support not only its own aircraft but also third-party customers in the growing regional market.
The inclusion of proprietary artificial intelligence tools within the Trax and Aerostrat platforms marks a shift towards predictive maintenance for the carrier. These AI systems assist in defect resolution and maintenance scheduling, reducing the reliance on manual intervention. For an airline that operated 79 aircraft at the end of 2024 and is now inducting new Airbus A321neo and Boeing 787-9 airframes, the scalability of these digital solutions is essential. The shift to a secure cloud environment also ensures that maintenance data is accessible to line stations and hangars globally, further reducing aircraft downtime and supporting the airline's sustainability goals by eliminating paper-intensive processes.
