Thai Rung Union Car Public Company (Thairung) has unveiled its W1 armoured vehicle at the show. This is the first time that the vehicle has been shown in public. Speaking to GBP Daily News, a company official said the W1 had been developed not only to meet the needs of the Royal Thai armed forces but also for other militaries in the region. He said that W1 was ready for mass-production and the company was in sales discussions with several interested customers.
Thairung has used a Toyota platform for the W1 in the interests of reliability and ruggedness. The W1 is available with a ring mount to fit weapons turrets and a capacious cargo hold. The official stated that Thairung was eyeing military customers interested in tactical military vehicles. Should a customer so desire, Thairung will also customize the vehicles on a different brand of vehicle or chassis. The company can also undertake bulletproof conversion.
Thairung is also producing a Fit for Radio (FFR) variant of its armoured vehicles and over 200 of these vehicles were delivered last year to various customers in SE Asia. Thai Rung Union Car Public Company is a Thailand-based manufacturer of armoured vehicles and military patrol vehicles. The company started delivering armoured vehicles to the Thai military in 2009 with its MUV-4.
