Turkish defense firm SolidAERO has unveiled TALAY, the world's first sea-skimming, multi-role unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), at IDEF 2025.
Developed in partnership with Yonca Shipyard, TALAY is designed to fly just meters above the sea surface using wing-in-ground (WIG) effect technology—offering a stealthy, high-speed solution for maritime strike and reconnaissance missions.
TALAY's ability to cruise at altitudes as low as 0.3 meters keeps it below standard naval radar horizons, allowing it to approach targets undetected. With a top speed of 200 km/h, a 30 kg payload capacity, and a flight endurance of up to three hours, it is optimized for a variety of roles including patrol, surveillance, precision strikes, and light cargo delivery. The UAV can operate autonomously or via remote control in sea state 3 conditions.
Analysts say the concept could reshape naval UAV tactics, particularly for close-in coastal and anti-ship operations. Foldable wings and a composite airframe support rapid deployment from coastal platforms or small vessels, offering flexibility across mission sets.
With serial production expected by 2027, TALAY represents a new chapter in Turkey's expanding maritime unmanned systems portfolio, bringing stealth, mobility, and adaptability to contested littoral zones.
