Turkey’s MKE Unveils ‘TOLGA’ Drone Defence System

Our Bureau - : Jul 22, 2025 - : 4:46 am

Turkey's state-owned defense manufacturer MKE is showcasing its next-generation counter-drone technology, the TOLGA Drone Defence System (DDS), at IDEF 2025.

The system represents a comprehensive, layered solution designed to counter the growing threat of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) on the modern battlefield.

Integrating its own command and control infrastructure, radar surveillance, electronic warfare elements, and a full range of turret-mounted weapons, the TOLGA DDS offers a unified system for detection, tracking, and neutralisation of hostile drones.

The heart of the system is a mobile radar unit, which provides real-time tracking data to a soft-kill jammer station, capable of electronically disabling drones at ranges of up to 10,000 metres. If drones breach this perimeter, a layered hard-kill defence mechanism comes into play, using the specially developed Tolga family of turrets and ammunition.

The family includes: 35 mm turret: Effective up to 3,000 metres, 20 mm turret: Effective up to 1,000 metres, 40 mm turret: Effective up to 500 metres, and 12.7 mm turret: Effective up to 300 metres. The tiered engagement strategy ensures neutralisation of drone threats at multiple distances, providing effective coverage for critical assets and installations.

MKE's unveiling of TOLGA comes amid rising global concerns over drone-enabled threats in conflict zones, urban settings, and critical infrastructure environments.
