Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) and Airbus have entered into a strategic partnership agreement aimed at accelerating the export of the HÜRJET Advanced Jet Trainer to Spain. The agreement, inked during the recent IDEF, formalizes the joint efforts between the two companies in meeting Spain’s jet trainer procurement needs.
Under the partnership, the export details of the HÜRJET Jet Trainer have been further clarified. It has been agreed that up to 30 HÜRJET aircraft will be procured to meet Spain’s jet trainer requirements. The final sales agreement is expected to be signed by the end of 2025, with deliveries planned to begin in 2028. The Spanish Air and Space Force will induct the new state-of-the art trainer aircraft to replace its F-5 fleet as well as the ground-based training systems.
This cooperation follows the industrial collaboration memorandum of understanding signed this May between TUSAŞ, Airbus, and key Spanish defense companies with a focus on the HÜRJET platform. The newly signed agreement aims to expedite the process of integrating the HÜRJET into the inventory of the Spanish Air Force.
"This strategic partnership with Airbus, a global aerospace leader, represents far more than a successful export initiative; it is a testament to the technological maturity the Turkish aerospace industry has achieved on the world stage," said TUSAŞ President & CEO Dr. Mehmet Demiroğlu. "
Seeing HÜRJET soar across Spanish skies will once again underscore the global competitiveness of Türkiye’s defense industry. We are confident that this agreement will further strengthen defense cooperation between our nations and open new pathways for Turkish engineering in Europe’s future aviation projects.”
Airbus Defence and Space announced that the agreement establishes the collaboration principles between the two companies, including:The joint preparation and submission of the proposal for the Integrated Training System - Combat (ITS-C) programme, based on the HÜRJET Advanced Jet Trainer Aircraft developed by Turkish Aerospace; The governance for the management and functioning of the Temporary Union of Enterprises (UTE) to perform the future contract.
Designed and developed by Turkish Aerospace engineers, the HÜRJET Jet Trainer plays a critical role in preparing pilots for 5th-generation fighter aircraft. The Human-Machine Interface (HMI) was specifically designed to minimize transition time to next-generation fighter jets, and positions HÜRJET as an ideal solution to replace aging trainers and prepare young pilots for the complex challenges of modern air combat.
Having completed over 210 test flights and achieved supersonic speeds, HÜRJET targets a maximum speed of Mach 1.4. The cutting-edge HÜRJET Training 360 System, features an Embedded Training System and Ground-Based Training System, designed to deliver exceptional training efficiency. The aircraft’s smart, single-engine configuration offers reduced fuel consumption, easier maintenance, and lower spare part requirements.
