The United Arab Emirates intends to procure 12 L-15 jet trainers from the China National Aero-Technology Import and Export Corporation.

The UAE recently signed a letter of intent to buy the jets. According to YAE Air Force Col. Abdulnaser Al Humeidi, the country may procure up to 36 of the fixed-winged Chinese aircraft. The L-15 is a training and light-attack aircraft for fourth- and fifth-generation fighter pilot training.

Talks with China National Aero-Technology Import and Export Corp have reached the final stage. A final contract is expected to be signed soon, according to Tareq Al-Hosani, CEO of the Tawazun Economic Council.

The L-15 delivered a flight performance and was also part of the static display at the November 2021 Dubai Air Show in the UAE. Besides its primary use as a trainer jet, the L-15 can also carry weapons and serve as a light, multi-role combat aircraft. The aircraft is equipped with a full set of advanced electronic systems and comes with a wide range of munitions.

The L-15 is also used by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army under the designation of JL-10.
