The United Kingdom is promoting the ability of UK based companies in the fields of technology transfer, strategic alliances, joint ventures and industrial partnerships as the main themes at IDEX.
The UK has sent a large industry and government team to Abu Dhabi, to promote the wide range of innovative world leading technologies, developed by companies in the UK and to highlight the important strategic defence relationship between the UK and the UAE.
“I am delighted to lead the UK’s delegation on my first visit to IDEX. The UK highly values the defence and security relationship with the UAE. We are keen to deepen that partnership by sharing experience across a range of sectors in support of Expo 2020 and UAE’s Vision 2021 Plan,” said Stuart Andrew, UK Minister for Defence Procurement.
According to Simon Everest, Director of the Department of International Trade’s Defence and Security Organisation, “We are here to continue to encourage UK and UAE companies to work together to identify areas of joint cooperation. The UK has a significant range of world-class products across the air, land, maritime, UAV and security sectors. IDEX 2019 presents an excellent opportunity for us to show the best that Britain has to offer, on which partnerships can be built”.
Themes from the UK companies include land and maritime border security; Underwater technologies; command and control solutions; infrared imagery; maritime mine detection and countermeasures; and chemical, biological, radiation, nuclear defence.
The UK is also very keen to work with the UAE on Expo 2020 and to support their 2021 vision. A Royal Navy Mine Counter Measure Vessel, HMS Shoreham is also attending.
Approximately one hundred UK companies are taking part in IDEX this year. UK companies have successfully delivered a wide range of capabilities to friends and allies across the Gulf and Middle East.
