Blighter Surveillance Systems, the British designer and manufacturer of electronic-scanning (e-scan) radars, made its debut at Defense & Security 2025 in Bangkok as it intensifies efforts to expand across the Asia-Pacific defence and security market.
The event, taking place from 10–13 November at the IMPACT Exhibition & Convention Centre, brings together regional and international defence, land, sea, air and security agencies. Blighter is highlighting its radar portfolio tailored for border protection, coastal surveillance and counter-intrusion missions – requirements that are increasingly prioritised by Southeast Asian governments.
In a statement, Blighter said it is exhibiting at the UK Pavilion to introduce its latest ground and coastal surveillance systems to military and government stakeholders from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines. The announcement aligns with rising procurement interest in radar-based surveillance capabilities as Indo-Pacific nations respond to maritime security pressures, illegal trafficking, grey-zone incursions and expanding unmanned aerial and maritime threats.
Blighter’s product showcase in Bangkok includes its long-range B400 series radar and the compact A400 and A800 radars. The systems provide 360-degree monitoring using solid-state antennas with no mechanical rotation, enabling continuous operation with minimal maintenance. Their ability to detect humans, vehicles, small surface craft and low-flying drones in cluttered terrain is positioned as an advantage for frontline environments such as archipelagic coastlines, mountainous borders and dense jungle areas common in ASEAN nations.
The company has established representation in Thailand through Defentec Ltd., a subsidiary of Hollywood International, to strengthen regional support for customers. The partnership enables local engagement, integration services and potential system-level adaptation for national security agencies.
James Long, Blighter’s Chief Executive Officer, said the Bangkok appearance is a strategic move to capitalise on defence modernisation programmes already underway in the region. “Governments in the Asia-Pacific are facing increased challenges in securing land and coastal borders against trafficking, piracy and illegal maritime activity,” said Long in the announcement. “They are seeking reliable, all-weather sensor systems that safeguard national sovereignty day and night. Blighter’s technology has proven itself in demanding operational areas worldwide.”
Blighter radars have previously been deployed in high-sensitivity environments including the Korean Demilitarised Zone and are also used in the United Kingdom’s national security architecture. Their modular design allows installation on fixed towers, mobile vehicles or rapidly deployable tripods, offering plug-and-play flexibility suited to expeditionary operations and civil-security tasks.
Southeast Asia remains a competitive and rapidly expanding market for situational awareness solutions, driven by maritime disputes in the South China Sea and the region’s vast territorial waters. Defence spending across ASEAN continues to increase, providing opportunities for non-US radar suppliers such as Blighter with export-friendly, ITAR-free technologies.
By introducing its systems to potential customers at Defense & Security 2025, Blighter is positioning itself as a credible partner for Asia-Pacific militaries and homeland-security agencies seeking advanced surveillance radars as part of integrated border-protection architectures.
