Ukranian State Defence Concern “Ukroboronprom” has announced the delivery of five upgraded T-72 Main Battle Tanks (MBT) to the Ukrainian military.
The overhaul of the first batch of tanks was carried out by Kyiv Armored Plant (KBTZ) and included improvements designed to improve the combat and technical characteristics of the vehicles.
“T-72 tanks are the result of rethinking the experience of waging war in eastern Ukraine. We have taken a comprehensive approach to repairing and significantly improving the tactical and technical characteristics of vehicles so that they can better perform Ukrainian defense tasks,” said Volodymyr Synyavskyi, director of the KBTZ.
The upgraded T-72’s are fitted with a more powerful 840-horsepower engine and use an upgraded T-80 chassis.
Improvements have also been made to night-vision devices along with updated self-protection systems and new fire-fighting equipment. In addition, the tanks are equipped with a modern digital radio and satellite navigation system.
The upgraded T-72s can also fire high-precision Kombat guided missiles “” manufactured by KB “Luch” with a range of 4 km.
The Kombat ATGM can penetrate armor with a thickness of 750 mm.
