Israeli defence prime UVision Air Ltd. has concluded the acquisition of fellow loitering munition specialist SpearUAV, a strategic move that significantly bolsters UVision’s position as a global leader in the rapidly expanding sphere of aerial precision strike systems. The integration of SpearUAV’s highly capable, encapsulated, artificial intelligence (AI)-driven systems will enable UVision to offer military customers a comprehensive, multi-layered portfolio of loitering munitions, spanning tactical unit-level operations right up to strategic-echelon target acquisition and engagement.
The union creates a formidable, end-to-end suite of loitering munition capabilities. UVision’s globally renowned Hero family systems, such as the Hero-120 and Hero-400, are typically deployed for operational and tactical missions, providing long-endurance precision strike and surveillance. The integration of SpearUAV's Viper family introduces advanced, low-level operational capacity, focusing on encapsulated, canister-launched systems that can be swiftly deployed from ground vehicles, naval vessels, and potentially underwater platforms. This dual-offering approach creates a true ‘system-of-systems’, allowing militaries to choose the most cost-effective and appropriate munition for any given threat profile across multi-domain environments.
The acquisition was initially reported by Israeli daily Haaretz on 26 November 2025. This expansion follows a period of massive commercial success for UVision, underscored by its recent selection for a multi-year Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract with the US Army valued at nearly $1 billion. This contract, focused on the combat-proven Hero-120 system, validates the operational efficacy and growing global demand for UVision’s technology, which offers distinct lethality and cost advantages over traditional guided missiles. Furthermore, the combined entity stands to benefit from expertise gained through SpearUAV's focus on AI-driven swarm technology and advanced operational reach capabilities.
The timing of this consolidation is particularly strategic for the Asia-Pacific (APAC) defence market, which is undergoing rapid modernisation driven by increasing geopolitical tensions and rising defence budgets. The APAC loitering munition market is forecasted to experience robust growth, projected to be valued at approximately $1.61 billion by 2032. The region’s diverse operational requirements, spanning dense urban terrain, vast maritime environments, and complex land borders, necessitate the exact kind of multi-platform, scalable solutions now offered by the combined UVision/SpearUAV entity.
The integration of the Viper family’s canister-launch capability is highly attractive to naval forces and land units seeking stealthy, readily deployable tactical airpower. UVision is already established in the region, notably through its joint venture with India’s Aditya Precitech, called AVision, for the local manufacture and marketing of its systems. This existing foothold, combined with the new, enhanced portfolio addressing capabilities across all echelons—from squad to brigade—positions the company strongly to secure tenders in key regional markets such as India, South Korea, and Australia, where the demand for modern, networked lethality is accelerating. The emphasis on AI and autonomous operation inherent in SpearUAV’s technology also aligns perfectly with APAC’s technological focus on next-generation defence capabilities.
