Vietjet has signed an agreement for 100 Airbus A321neo aircraft at the 2025 Paris Airshow, with options for an additional 50 aircraft. The order represents a key step in the airline’s long-term growth strategy, which also includes a commitment to strengthen engine capacity with 40 more Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines. These developments support Vietjet’s ambition to become a multi-national aviation group while also contributing to deeper economic cooperation between Vietnam, France, and Europe.
This new order follows Vietjet’s recent purchase of 20 A330neo widebody aircraft, taking its total A330neo backlog to 40. Combined, the A321neo and A330neo fleets will allow the airline to scale operations across a wider route network while maintaining operational efficiency and fleet commonality.
“We will continue to develop a robust and modern fleet to support that goal,” said Vietjet Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao. “Today’s agreement with Airbus is more than a commercial contract—it is a significant milestone that marks the beginning of Vietjet’s new journey: a journey of global expansion, new growth drivers, enhanced connectivity, and the development of a sustainable aviation ecosystem powered by ambition and transformation.”
Airbus EVP Sales for Commercial Aircraft, Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, noted: “Our latest agreement comes just weeks after the airline placed an additional order for A330neo widebody aircraft. Together, the A321neo and A330neo will be perfect partners for Vietjet to continue to spread its wings, efficiently matching capacity more closely to demand across its network.”
The A321neo is the largest variant of the A320neo Family and is designed to offer increased range, reduced fuel consumption, and lower emissions. It incorporates new-generation engines and Sharklets, achieving over 20% fuel and CO₂ savings and halving noise compared to previous-generation narrowbodies. The aircraft is capable of operating with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) today, with Airbus targeting full SAF capability by 2030.
In a separate deal also announced at the airshow, Vietjet confirmed an order for 40 additional Trent 7000 engines to power its growing A330neo fleet. This builds on an earlier agreement signed at the 2024 Singapore Airshow and brings the total number of Trent 7000 engines on order to 80.
The Trent 7000, the exclusive engine for the A330neo, has accumulated more than three million flight hours and is supported by Rolls-Royce’s TotalCare® service programme, which includes advanced engine health monitoring and lifecycle performance optimisation.
Vietjet currently operates a fleet of over 120 new-generation aircraft and holds orders for more than 400 additional units. The airline continues to grow its international route network while investing in fleet modernisation through partnerships with leading aerospace manufacturers.
