Vietnamese low-cost carrier Vietjet has finalised a significant agreement for 100 Airbus A321neo aircraft and secured a US$3.8 billion (approx. SGD4.94 billion) contract with Rolls-Royce for 92 Trent 7000 engines and TotalCare support services. The announcement underscores the airline’s robust growth trajectory and Vietnam’s increasing influence in Asia-Pacific aviation.
The deals were confirmed in the United Kingdom during the official visit of Vietnam’s General Secretary To Lam, a diplomatic milestone marking the advancement of Vietnam–UK ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. According to the companies’ official release issued on 31 October 2025, the agreements aim to not only boost Vietjet’s fleet capacity but also deepen bilateral cooperation in technology, investment, and high-value manufacturing.
Airbus, which has seen rising demand for narrow-body aircraft driven by Asia’s rapidly expanding aviation markets, hailed the contract as a reflection of Vietnam’s strengthening role in global connectivity. Meanwhile, Rolls-Royce highlighted that Vietjet is now one of its largest Trent 7000 customers—positioning the carrier to expand long-haul network capacity as regional competition heats up.
The Trent 7000 engines will equip Vietjet’s future fleet of 40 Airbus A330neo wide-body jets, enabling direct long-distance operations such as Vietnam–Europe non-stop flights. With Asia projected to account for nearly half of global passenger traffic growth by 2040, Vietjet is positioning itself to compete more effectively against full-service rivals that currently dominate intercontinental routes from the region.
Beyond operational benefits, Rolls-Royce’s TotalCare programme ensures enhanced lifecycle performance and cost predictability—key factors for low-cost carriers scaling long-haul operations. Airbus will also provide ongoing support for training and flight safety standards as the airline accelerates expansion at major Vietnamese hubs including Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
Industry observers note that Vietjet’s aggressive fleet modernisation aligns with trends across Southeast Asia, where carriers are capitalising on a resurgence in air travel and increased demand for fuel-efficient aircraft. The A321neo, already a top seller globally, provides extended range and efficiency suited for dense intra-Asia market pairs—supporting Vietjet’s ambitions to improve connectivity to Australia, North Asia, and South Asia.
Vietjet Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao described the deals as more than commercial transactions, calling them symbols of trust and shared aspirations for sustainable development. Airbus and Rolls-Royce executives—Christian Scherer and Ewen McDonald respectively—praised Vietjet’s rapid rise and reaffirmed support for the airline’s international growth roadmap.
As Vietnam’s largest private airline, Vietjet continues to gain recognition for operational safety and financial performance. It holds IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) certification and has earned accolades from Skytrax, CAPA, and Airlineratings.com for its low-cost efficiency. The new agreements place Vietjet among the region’s most ambitious carriers, advancing Vietnam’s position in the global aerospace supply chain as demand for aviation surges across Asia-Pacific.
