The Vietnam People's Navy received 17 patrol boats on Friday (Jan. 10) in a ceremony held at Factory X46, Naval Logistics and Engineering Department in Hai Phong City. The fleet, comprising one CV-01 and 16 CQ-01 vessels, was donated by localities, agencies, and businesses from Hai Duong province, with a combined value of 78 billion VND (USD 3 million).
The handover ceremony was attended by Navy leaders and representatives from the contributing organisations. Rear Admiral Pham Nhu Xuan, Deputy Commander of the Navy, expressed gratitude for the support and contributions made towards safeguarding the nation’s maritime sovereignty and enhancing the welfare of naval officers and soldiers.
The boats will be deployed for training purposes in and around the Truong Sa island district in the South China Sea, also known as the Spratly Islands.
The CV-01 patrol boat, produced by Factory X70 of the Vietnam People's Navy Technical Department, measures 12 metres in length, 3 metres in width, and 1.5 metres in height, with a displacement of 8.5 tons. Made from composite and carbon fibre materials, it is powered by two diesel engines, each with a capacity of 374 KW, and can reach speeds exceeding 40 knots.
Each CQ-01 boat, also manufactured by the Technical Department, is 7.69 metres long, 2.34 metres wide, and has a displacement of 2.8 tons. These boats are capable of carrying eight people and reaching speeds of up to 26.8 knots.
The CQ-01 boats underwent thorough testing at the wharf and over long distances to ensure stable operation, with all technical parameters meeting the standards approved by the General Staff of the Ministry of National Defence.
The donation builds on previous efforts by Hai Duong province to support the country's Navy. In 2022, the Hai Duong Provincial Party Committee led a delegation to the Truong Sa island district and mobilised funds to donate a CQ-01 boat worth 3.5 billion VND, sponsored by Thanh Dong Real Estate Investment Joint Stock Company.
