Abu Dhabi-based XRANGE, a facility for training, testing, and evaluation (TT&E) in defence, aerospace, and commercial sectors, has expanded its capabilities. Operated by REMAYA, the facility now includes additional infrastructure and services to enhance operational flexibility and accommodate customer requirements.
Haitham Awinat, Chief Executive Officer of REMAYA, stated: “XRANGE was designed to push the boundaries of what is possible in terms of conducting critical TT&E activities in the UAE. While significantly boosting our operational flexibility, these enhancements allow our clients to expedite their product development processes and accelerate the delivery of their solutions to market.”
The expansion includes a 1.2 km secondary runway at Abu Al Abyad Airfield, designed to support unmanned aerial systems (UAS) operations alongside the existing 3.8 km primary runway. The addition allows for simultaneous flight operations of UAVs with conventional take-off and landing capabilities. Two 800 m emergency runways have also been introduced to improve recovery options during in-flight contingencies.
XRANGE has expanded its environmental testing facilities, now offering component-level assessments using electrodynamic shaker tables, temperature and humidity conditioning chambers, and drop-testing for up to 40 kg of high explosives. The facility has also completed a UAS Drone Training Village, providing a controlled environment for low-level UAS testing and AI training to recognise urban elements.
Further improvements include extended airspace access through a NOTAM Extension, developed in coordination with the Al Dhafra Air Operations Centre. Customers now have the option to utilise a 100 km by 25 km air corridor west of Abu Al Abyad Island, with clearance up to 10,000 feet.
XRANGE has introduced ruggedised sensors designed to capture data on noise, vibration, shock, and blast pressure. These sensors can be integrated into UAVs, land vehicles, maritime platforms, and weapon systems to support evidence-based development.
Additionally, the facility is developing a Vehicle Blast and Ballistics testing service to evaluate the resilience of armoured vehicles against threats such as small arms, grenades, rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), and anti-tank mines. Testing will be conducted in accordance with international standards, including STANAG-4569, which defines protection levels for armoured vehicles.
