Collins Aerospace Systems’ Tianjin Facility Turns Ten

: Sep 18, 2019 - : 2:49 am

Collins Aerospace Systems has celebrated the 10-year anniversary of its site in Tianjin, China.

The site is part of Collins‘ Aerostructures business unit and is a critical part of Collins Aerospace‘s presence in the Asia-Pacific region. Its core competencies, in support of jet-engine nacelle systems, include composite-component manufacturing; engine podding; and aftermarket Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) services.

Since opening in 2009, the Tianjin site has grown to approximately 200,000 square feet and is home to approximately 350 employees. On the MRO side of its business, Tianjin has more than 20 service agreements with airline customers, covering approximately 500 aircraft under various Airbus, Boeing and Embraer programs.

Collins Aerospace has one of the industry’s largest global nacelle MRO networks, and has developed a culture of “speed and ease” by combining excellent maintenance, repair and overhaul value with timely customer service and ease of interaction. This network includes eight facilities that collectively total more than 1.2 million square feet of MRO shop space. As a leading original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of nacelles for commercial aircraft, the company leverages its deep technical expertise, product knowledge, and globally dispersed rotable spares to provide best-in-class aftermarket services and support.

“Tianjin is an important part of our global MRO network and a key contributor for our original-equipment nacelle systems business,” said Marc Duvall, President, Aerostructures, Collins Aerospace Systems. “As airline fleets continue to grow in the Asia-Pacific region to meet rising passenger demand, the need for best-in-class MRO services in the region is also increasing. As the original-equipment nacelle supplier for many of these aircraft, Collins is especially well positioned to provide premier MRO services, including onsite support, rotable spares assets and easy access to technical expertise, customized to meet each customer’s needs.”

“The resounding support from our customers is a constant, and welcome, reminder that our path toward achieving best-in-class customer satisfaction is a never-ending journey,“ said Dana Stephenson, Vice President of Customer Support, Aerostructures, Collins Aerospace Systems.“We celebrate the first 10 years and look forward to serving our customers in this region for many decades to come.“

On the original-equipment side of its operations, Aerostructures‘ Tianjin facility produces composite components for multiple aircraft programs. It played a significant role in the May 2019 delivery of 1,000th Collins nacelle for the Airbus A320neo. The facility, which is strategically located next to an Airbus Final Assembly Line (FAL), also performs engine podding, which is the process of integrating a jet engine into a nacelle system before it is delivered to the FAL and assembled as part of a new aircraft. The Tianjin facility and team are also strategically located to supply nacelle components and systems for future engines and aircraft in the Asia Pacific region.
