IATA警告说若政府不出面继续给予航空业以支持，将会产生灾难性后果。
在发出上述呼吁的同时，IATA警告说2020年下半年航空公司需要大约770亿美元的资金才能维持下去。
IATA说到，考虑到旅行需求持续低迷，航空公司在2021年要想维持下去，大约每个月需要50亿到60亿美元现金的支持。
IATA认为对北半球的航空公司的援助尤为重要，因为即将进入的冬季减缓了航空业的复苏。至今，各国政府已经向全球的航空运输业提供了1600亿美元的税收减免，这包括燃油税、公司税的减免，直接援助和工资补贴等。
政府仍会大范围的提供支持，因为“这场危机的深度和持续时间之长，是我们从来没有遇到过的。”IATA的理事长兼CEO亚历山大•朱利安尼说到，“今天，我们必须再次发出警告，若政府的支持项目不能被延长或用新的方式来替代，则会使当下已经步履蹒跚的航空运输业出现灾难性的后果。在当前敏感时期，旅行成本的增加会延迟旅行业的复苏并危及相关的工作岗位。”
依据航空运输行动组（ATAG）的预测，因COVID-19大流行导致的航空运输业的下滑和缓慢的复苏，将威胁到整个航空产业链上的大约480万个工作岗位。这场全球危机会导致4600万个工作岗位消失，造成的经济影响达到了1.8万亿美元。
