S-400 Deal: Russia Awaits Advance Payment from India

: Feb 19, 2019 - : 2:31 am

Russia is awaiting an advance payment from India to start the delivery process of the five S-400 Triumph long-range air defence missile systems (ADMS), CEO of Russia’s hi-tech corporation Rostec Sergei Chemezov told GBP Aerospace & Defence on the sidelines of IDEX.

On October 5, 2018, Rosoboronexport (part of the Rostec State Corporation) had signed a contract to supply India with the S-400 Triumph ADMS. Under the contract worth US$5.43 billion, New Delhi was supposed to start taking delivery of five regimental sets of S-400s from end of this year.

“We will start the delivery process as soon as India completes the formalities of advance payment,” Chemezov said. It is unclear what missiles Russia will supply to India. If the package includes the 40N6 SAM, the S-400 has the capability to intercept cruise missiles and aircraft up to 400-km. away, and can engage up to 36 targets at a time and simultaneously launch 72 missiles.

Meanwhile, Russia intends to complete the delivery of its S-400 surface-to-air missile systems to Turkey by the end of this year

“We will complete the deliveries of advanced S-400 surface-to-air missile systems to Turkey by the end of this year, he informed. “We have signed the contract and we will complete the deliveries by the end of this year. We will deliver all the systems this year,” the chief executive said.

The S-400 Triumph is the most advanced long-range air defense missile system that went into service in Russia in 2007. It is designed to destroy aircraft, cruise and ballistic missiles, including medium-range missiles, and can also be used against ground installations. The S-400 can engage targets at a distance of 400 km and at an altitude of up to 30 km.
