EDITOR’S NOTE
A Game Changer
The unveiling of Northrop Grumman’s B-21 Raider, coming as it
does amid growing tensions between the U.S. and two of its
major adversaries - China and Russia - makes a turning point in
military history. The speed of growth of China’s military
capabilities is such that it will take more for the U.S. to tip the
scales in its favor in the battle to win the global arms race, but
the B-21 is indeed a powerful statement of intent. Due to its
next-generation stealth qualities and the ability to cut through
even the toughest of defences and launch precision strikes
anywhere in the world, the B-21 is set to become the gold
standard to which future aircraft of the type will be compared to.
If one were to look back a few years from now, 2022 will be
regarded as the year that marked the defence industry’s
complete and faster-than-expected recovery from a pandemic
that had threatened to erase gains made over the last two
decades. Fears of an economic downturn does hang in the air,
but going forward, there seems to be no other major headwinds
for the industry.
The ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine provides yet
another example of the growing role unmanned aerial vehicles
(UAVs) play in the modern battlefield. Ukraine’s effective use of
nano drones and bigger armed drones, to enhance its
conventional military operations, has caught the attention of the
world and will opens up new opportunities for makers of
unmanned military assets.
As the year draws to a close, we at GBP Aerospace & Defence
look back with pride. During the course of the year, we have been
a notable presence at numerous air shows and other trade
events in different parts of the world. As we look ahead to 2023,
we do so with a promise to you, dear reader, that we will continue
to bring you the latest news from the world of defence, live and
