500th Rolls-Royce Trent XWB Engine Delivered to Airbus

: Jul 16, 2018 - : 12:25 am

Rolls-Royce’s Trent XWB recently celebrated two new milestones in its highly successful programme.

One of the major milestones for the engine programme is that it has now crossed the two million flight hours mark, having powered the Airbus A350 aircraft since it entered service in January 2015. While the engine took nearly two years to accrue its first million flying hours, it took just nine months to add the second million.

The other milestone was the delivery of the 500th Trent XWB engine to Airbus in Toulouse, France.

“We are incredibly proud to celebrate these latest milestones. We have enjoyed the smoothest entry into service of any widebody engine and we continue to see the engine achieving market-leading levels of reliability,” said Gareth Davies, Rolls-Royce, Trent XWB Programme Director – Civil Aerospace. “We look forward to supporting our customers around the world as the Trent XWB family of operators continues to grow,” he added.

The Trent XWB engine has achieved a despatch reliability of 99.9 per cent and zero in-flight shut downs across its lifetime.

The Trent XWB-97, the latest and most powerful variant of the engine entered service on the Airbus A350-1000 earlier this year.

Rolls-Royce assembles the engine in both Derby, UK and Dahlewitz, Germany and has continued to ramp up production to meet customer demand for the A350.

At peak levels it will have the ability to deliver one new Trent XWB engine every day of the week.

More than 1,700 Trent XWB engines are in service or on order across 45 operators, making it the fastest-selling widebody engine ever.
