Air Astana Group Grows Fleet to 50 Aircraft

The flag carrier airline of Kazakhstan, Air Astana, received a delivery of an Airbus A321neo aircraft on Saturday (Jan. 20).

Directly flown from the Airbus assembly line in Hamburg, Germany, the newly delivered aircraft also marks the airline’s fifth Airbus A321neo. Together with its low-cost arm, FlyArystan, the newly arrived airliner also marks the Group’s 50th aircraft.

According to Air Astana Group’s official press release, the latest A321neo cabin combines existing business class and the new “Airspace Cabin” economy class, which offers more seats, larger overhead lockers, and a “moonlight” cabin lighting system, that was previously only featured on the airline’s long-haul aircraft.

As a joint venture between the sovereign wealth fund of Kazakhstan, Samruk-Kazyna (51%), and BAE Systems (49%), Air Astana Group currently serves 48 international and 43 domestic routes. The expansion of the fleet reflects the Group’s strategy to grow its fleet to 80 aircraft by the end of 2028.

Air Astana Group now operates 3 Boeing 767-300ERs (to be replaced by 3 Boeing 787-9s starting next year), 11 Airbus A321LRs, 3 A321s, 5 A321neos, 11 A320s (by FlyArystan), 6 A320neos (another 7 by FlyArystan), and five Embraer E190 E2s.

All combined, the average age of the Group’s fleet is 5.2 years.
