Airbus and Indonesia’s GMF AeroAsia have renewed their Maintenance Training Services (MTS) agreement for another five years. The new agreement, which will run from 2018 to 2023, was signed at an event in Jakarta.
Over the last five years, the partnership between the European manufacturer and Garuda Indonesia’s maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) arm has resulted in the integration of GMF AeroAsia’s instructors into the Airbus’ global maintenance training organisation.
GMF AeroAsia has also grown its in-house type-training capabilities for Airbus A320 and A330 aircraft maintenance and developed its ab-initio training capabilities. This has allowed it to successfully offer maintenance training courses for local and regional Airbus customers.
The renewal will bring Airbus training standards closer to the European manufacturer’s customers in South East Asia, and position GMF AeroAsia as a leading provider of maintenance training services in the region.
“This agreement reinforces the highly-successful long-term partnership between Airbus, Garuda Indonesia and GMF AeroAsia. We have received good feedback about the high quality of the GMF instructors and their training courses, and this will allow more Airbus customers to benefit from courses closer to their home,” said Bruno Bousquet, Airbus Head of Customer Services Asia Pacific.
Iwan Joeniarto, President and CEO of GMF AeroAsia, added, “GMF’s training centre offers the same courses, infrastructure and certificates as the Airbus training facilities in Toulouse, France. We currently have one class and, in the future, we will build another class to maximise the capacity of our training centre.”
Airbus and Indonesia have been partners since 1979, when Garuda Indonesia ordered the original Airbus A300B4s. Indonesian airlines have since ordered more than 300 of the company’s single-aisle and widebody aircraft, and around 120 Airbus aircraft are in service in the country. Key customers include Garuda Indonesia and its Citilink unit, the Lion Group which includes low-cost carrier Lion Air and its full-service unit Batik, and AirAsia Indonesia.
Beyond the commercial success, aerospace firm PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PT DI) supplies a wide range of aircraft components for the Airbus A320 Family and A350 XWB.
