Antavia, which has has won a long-term contract from Airbus to provide wheel and brake maintenance for the Airbus Beluga XL, has received its first wheels and brakes of the new cargo plane.

The contract will be carried out in collaboration with Airbus Transport International (ATI), an Airbus subsidiary, at Antavia’s maintenance facility in Campsas. The contract marks an extension of Antavia’s relationship with ATI.

Under the terms of the agreement, Antavia’s wheels and brakes support covers six of the highly modified twin-engine A330 aircraft.

Operating from 11 destinations in Europe, Belugas XL  provide Airbus with additional transport capacity as the oversize cargo airlifters gradually replace the five Beluga ST predecessors.

“This contract speaks to the confidence that Airbus has placed in Antavia and our ability to offer the Beluga XL fleet advanced and reliable maintenance solutions,” said Laurent Bouissou, Antavia’s Managing Director, DVP. “As a critical operator, ATI carries thousands of aircrafts pieces each year. By partnering with Antavia, they can focus fast transportation with the knowledge that their MRO needs are taken care of.”

“We have provided wheel and brake support to ATI since 1992, when we serviced the Super Guppy,” Bouissou added. “This contract extension means we will continue to provide support for the XL’s fleet.”

To date, more than 40,000 wheels and 3,200 brakes have been released from Antavia’s workshops.

Antavia, part of Ametek MRO,  has provided performance repair and overhaul services to aircraft operators worldwide for 30 years. Along with wheels and brakes, Antavia’s capabilities include repair and overhaul services for cabin equipment, water/wastewater systems, electrical power generation, electrical rewinds, electromechanical actuators, lights, electronics, hydraulic equipment, wheels and brakes, and engine accessories.
