Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has announced that it will lead a consortium of companies to establish and operate Israel’s National Cyber Infrastructure Center for Intelligent Traffic & Transportation Systems (ITS)

The consortium, led by IAI, includes Enigmatos, Alstom and IBI Group, as well as the University of Ben-Gurion in the Negev, as a strategic partner.

The consortium will work in cooperation with the Israeli Ministry of Transportation, the Ayalon Highways Company and Israel’s National Cyber Directorate and the new center will be located in the city of Beersheba.

Esti Peshin, IAI’s Cyber Division GM said, “Both Smart Transportation and Cyber-security today are fast growing markets that must be developed in tandem in order to ensure comfort, efficiency and safety on the roads. With a wide range of tailored operational solutions and state-of-the-art technologies in all arenas in cyber, IAI is focusing on developing and deploying national level cyber resiliency solutions as part of our turnkey systems to our customers worldwide.

The new centre will simulate a future transportation space, combining a range of transportation means and infrastructure activity.

The center has also been mandated to test the ability to protect against cyberattacks and attempts to commandeer the systems and to monitor future threats.

One of the consortium partners, Enigmatos focuses on protecting vehicles and fleets from malicious cyber activity and  its team of experts will be part of the new initiative.

Prof. Dan Blumberg, University Vice-President for Regional and Industrial Development, Ben-Gurion University said,  “The University sees IAI as a strategic partner in building the new innovation district and as happy to partner with IAI on the creation of the Smart Mobility Cyber Lab. The University plans to organize joint workshops, lead various research proposals on the related topics, provide existing infrastructure to evaluate the results of ongoing cyber research, and take an active role in the steering committee of new lab. University students and researchers are expected to be highly involved in this initiative.”
