Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) is confident that there is sufficient market potential to proceed with its all-new MC-X transport aircraft. Speaking to Daily News at Defence & Security on 8 November, a KAI official stated that the airframer was confident of the market prospects for the brand-new transport aircraft whose concept design has now been completed.
The Korean Government is reportedly keen that there be an indigenous cargo aircraft for the Republic of Korea Armed Forces. The KAI official stated the company was looking to position the aircraft between the Lockheed Martin C-130J and the Airbus A400M, though much work is yet to be done to finalise the eventual specifications.
The twin-engine MC-X in its current conceptual configuration will be able to carry 30 tonne of cargo and a range of 7,000km. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) recently inked an MOU to be a joint development partner in the MC-X programme.
