Boeing and Luxair have announced that the European regional carrier is further expanding its fleet with a new order for the largest model in the 737 MAX family. Following last year’s purchase of the 737-7 and 737-8 models, Luxair has now committed to two 737-10 aircraft, with options for an additional two. This move aims to support the airline’s sustainable growth and fleet modernisation.
“The purchase of the 737-10 is another step towards Luxair positioning for its future with the investment in the latest airplane technology that will support Luxair’s growth plans and the decarbonisation of our fleet. There is high commonality between the 737 MAX models, and this allows for significant operational savings for the airline,” stated Gilles Feith, Luxair CEO.
Feith also highlighted the environmental benefits, noting that the 737 MAXs will help create a 50 percent smaller noise footprint by reducing noise generated by takeoffs and landings at Luxembourg Airport.
The 737 MAX family offers a 20 percent reduction in fuel use and carbon emissions compared to the aircraft it replaces, providing operators with greater efficiency and fleet commonality. The 737-10’s size allows operators to carry more passengers and achieve the lowest cost per seat of any single-aisle aircraft.
Luxair plans to configure its new 737-10s to offer a minimum of 30-inch seat pitch, enabling the airline to fly up to 213 passengers on routes up to 5,740 km (3,100 nautical miles). This will provide increased capacity and range to meet growing leisure travel demand.
“With three members of the 737 MAX family in its fleet, Luxair will have the flexibility to use the right-size aeroplane according to market demand,” said Brad McMullen, Boeing Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing. “We appreciate Luxair for choosing the 737-10 to support its growth and improve the passenger experience while realising the benefits of operating an increasingly fuel-efficient fleet.”
Currently, Luxair operates a regional fleet of 21 aircraft, including two leased 737-8s and eight Next-Generation 737s. Over the past two years, the airline has expanded its route network by 30%, now serving 94 destinations.
Founded in 1961, Luxair is a key player in the economy of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the surrounding Greater Region. The airline is well known for its passenger air transport services, offering quick connections to major cities, business centres, and international hubs across Europe. Luxair provides maximum flexibility to business travellers and quality travel experiences to leisure customers. Through its tour operator division, Luxair offers a wide range of package holidays and themed getaways. Additionally, Luxair provides airport services at Luxembourg Airport and manages air cargo operations efficiently.
