The Max 737 crisis continued to haunt Boeing as its deliveries fell by more than a third in the first half of 2019 to 239 planes. The US manufacturer had delivered 379 aircraft in the corresponding period last year.
Meanwhile, Airbus recorded 389 deliveries in the first half of 2019. This include 315 single-aisle planes, including the A220, as well as 17 A330s, 53 A350s and four A380 superjumbos.
Boeing delivered 24 737s in the second quarter, a sharp fall from the first quarter, to bring the total to 113. Four 747s, 22 767s, 22 777s and 78 787s were also delivered during the first six months of the year.
The MAX has been grounded since March after two crashes in less than five months that killed 346 people. Boeing has reduced production of the aircraft to 42 a month in the wake of the grounding. The company received no new orders for the MAX in June, making it three months in a row when the aircraft had no new takers.
Airbus delivered 54 A320 family aircraft in June in both the neo and ceo versions along with six A220s. “Wide-body deliveries during the month were led by the A350 XWB, with a total of 10 aircraft provided in both the A350-900 and A350-1000 versions,” the company said.
