PT Palindo Marine, a private shipyard in Indonesia, began construction on a new model of the “Kapal Cepat Rudal 60” (KCR 60 – Fast Missile Boat 60) for the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) in Batam on Wednesday (Jun. 12).
Contrary to the previous report, the new KCR 60 is not based on the Large Patrol Craft (LPC) from Turkiye’s TAIS shipyard, but rather boasts a unique design. It was initially believed that the vessel being built by Palindo Marine would be a modified version of the LPC, but it now appears that the new ship has a distinct design compared to the Turkish model.
The new KCR 60 is equipped with a station for a Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB). It also features a 20 mm cannon, which is housed within a Remote Controlled Weapon Station (RCWS) and mounted at the front and below the bridge, behind and above the 76 mm main cannon.
Additionally, two 12.7 mm heavy machine gun stations have been installed on the top of the ship’s rear superstructure. The ship is also armed with 2×2 launchers, likely for the Atmaca anti-ship missiles.
The new KCR 60 measures 68 metres in length, approximately 9.45 metres in beam, and has a draft of 2.55 metres, giving it a displacement of around 660 tonnes.
Powered by two diesel engines that drive DJ450B-DT Water Jets, the ship is expected to reach a maximum speed of over 27 knots. With a cruising speed of 19 knots, the new KCR is projected to have a maximum range of 1,500 nautical miles or a 7-day endurance with its crew of 55.
The number of this new KCR 60 model that will be built for the Indonesian Navy is currently unknown.
