Show Debut for MIRA Aerospace’s High Altitude Pseudo Satellite Autonomous Aircraft

Abu Dhabi-based Mira Aerospace’s revolutionary ApusDuo solar High Altitude Pseudo Satellite (HAPS) Autonomous Aircraft has made it debut at the ongoing Show.

The autonomous aircraft is one of only two built and is undergoing testing in Rwanda. Based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, Mira Aerospace is a joint venture between Bayanat and UAVOS, Inc. The JV combines Bayanat’s unique geospatial AI experience with the extensive expertise of UAVOS in developing unmanned solutions.

Speaking to Daily News, a company official said the actual aircraft on display was being tested in Rwanda and will return to the region after the airshow. The official stated that the autonomous aircraft on display was an advanced prototype and is already undertaking work for customers.

The payload of the current platform is 16 kg. The company is developing a larger autonomous aircraft that would have a payload of 30 kg, the official said. The larger aircraft is slated to be ready next year. The company has already inked contracts with three customers based in Asia, Africa and the UAE, where it undertakes Telecommunications and earth observation missions.

In late October this year, the ApusDuo solar aircraft successfully conducted a 5G connectivity test, marking the world’s first successful delivery of 5G connectivity from a fixed-wing HAPS (high altitude pseudo satellite) autonomous aircraft in the stratosphere.
The 5G connectivity demonstration followed a previous stratospheric flight test conducted in Rwanda in June this year, during which Mira Aerospace’s ApusDuo carried a dummy version of the payload.

UAVOS, a developer and manufacturer of advanced unmanned systems, and Bayanat, a part of the Abu Dhabi-based G42, a global leader in artificial intelligence (AI), announced the creation of a joint venture partnership in October 2022, under which the two companies would work on a High-Altitude Platform Station (HAPS) programme.
