US Army Deploys MRC Missile System to the Philippines

The US Army deployed its Mid-Range Capability (MRC) missile system to Northern Luzon, Philippines for the first time. This deployment was carried out during the joint exercise Salaknib 24 to enhance interoperability, readiness, and defence capabilities with the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

“This is a significant step in our partnership with the Philippines, our oldest treaty ally in the region. We’re grateful to our partners in the Armed Forces of the Philippines and we’re excited to expand our security cooperation as we bring this new capability to Luzon,” said Brig. Gen. Bernard Harrington, commanding general of the 1st Multi-Domain Task Force (1MDTF) involved in the exercise.

“This creates several new collaboration opportunities for our bilateral training and readiness, we look forward to growing together,” he added.

Transported aboard a C-17 Globemaster III aircraft flying directly to the Philippines, the MRC missile system arrived in the Southeast Asian country on 11 April 2024 after travelling more than 12,800 km from Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington, according to a US Army statement on Monday (Apr. 15).

The MRC missile system is a land-based, ground-launched system designed to fire the Standard Missile 6 (SM-6) and the Tomahawk Land Attack Missile (TLAM). The complete configuration of MRC comprises a battery operations centre, four launchers, prime movers, and modified trailers.
