Vietnam Airlines has selected the Airbus Skywise Predictive Maintenance (SPM) digital solution. The long-term agreement covers up to 65 A321 Family aircraft (A321ceo and A321neo) and represents a key milestone in the ongoing digital transformation of Vietnam Airlines.
Harnessing the aircraft data collected from the new on-board Flight Operations and Maintenance Exchanger (FOMAX), SPM provides best-in-class predictive recommendations to remove unplanned events, alleviate operational uncertainty and decrease the cost of unscheduled maintenance.
SPM also brings efficiency in optimising the spare parts management and inventory, and helps the airline reduce CO2 emissions by avoiding unnecessary fuel consumption caused by maintenance defects thereby contributing to more sustainable operations.
The new contract builds on Vietnam Airlines' existing usage of Skywise Health Monitoring (SHM) that supports its maintenance and engineering teams by enabling real-time management of aircraft events and troubleshooting. This helps the airline in identifying, prioritising, analysing and handling in-service events, enabling quicker decision-making and minimising AOG risks.
Airbus' Skywise is the largest digital aviation community comprising several modules including reliability, predictive maintenance or health monitoring powered by the leading big data platform in aviation to offer a unique set of turnkey solutions for the operators to address their technical operation challenges and shape a more sustainable way to operate and maintain Airbus aircraft.
"Vietnam Airlines is dedicated to safety, sustainability and efficiency, and our collaboration with Airbus through Skywise represents a significant stride towards these goals. By harnessing digital solutions like Skywise, we are confident in our ability to further reduce our environmental impact while delivering an exceptional travel experience for our passengers," said Nguyen Chien Thang, Executive Vice President of Vietnam Airlines.
"Airbus and Vietnam Airlines will embark on a transformative journey towards more environmentally responsible air travel. The implementation of the Skywise Predictive Maintenance solution will enable the airline to reduce costs, enhance operational efficiency, and contribute to global efforts to reduce the aviation industry's carbon footprint," said Anand Stanley, President Airbus Asia-Pacific.
