Indian full-service carrier, Vistara, a joint venture of Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines, has announced total orders valued at US$ 3.1 billion for 13 Airbus A320neo family aircraft and six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. Vistara will also lease another 37 new A320neo-family aircraft from leasing companies.

As per the Letter of Intent (LOI), Vistara has placed firm orders for 13 A320neo and A321neos with options for seven more aircraft.

“India’s position as the world’s fastest growing domestic aviation market and its impressive growth in air passenger traffic that has more than doubled over the last decade, makes us confident of our aggressive plans for domestic expansion and international foray,” said Vistara CEO, Leslie Thng. “These orders are a landmark step in Vistara’s journey and demonstrate our deep-rooted commitment to contributing to the rise of the Indian aviation industry and to offering more choices to our customers,” he added.

CFM International LEAP 1-A engines will power Vistara’s A320neo and A321neos and aircraft deliveries will take place between 2019-2023.

The aircraft will operate on Vistara’s domestic network and support its international operations planned to start later this year.

Vistara’s 787-9s will be powered by General Electric GEnx-1B engines and the aircraft are scheduled to be delivered between 2020 and 2021.

The 787-9s are intended for use on medium-haul and long-haul international routes.

Vistara’s existing fleet comprises of 13 Airbus A320ceo and 8 A320neos and another A320neo is due for delivery in September 2018.
