Air Astana and Japan Airlines have entered into a codeshare agreement, enabling both carriers to place their respective codes on a new service connecting Almaty and Tokyo, set to commence in spring 2026.

The collaboration is intended to improve travel connectivity between Kazakhstan and Japan for both business and leisure passengers, while also facilitating the exchange of people and goods between the two nations. Diplomatic relations between Japan and Kazakhstan have been in place since 1992.

Peter Foster, CEO of Air Astana Group, commented, “Our collaboration with Japan Airlines is an exciting development that will enrich our international network and offer more travel options for our customers. We look forward to delivering a seamless travel experience for passengers between Kazakhstan and Japan.”

Mitsuko Tottori, CEO of Japan Airlines Group, added, “We are delighted to enter into cooperation with such a distinguished partner as Air Astana. We will contribute to further enhancement of over 30 years of diplomatic relationship between Japan and Kazakhstan, through developing passenger and cargo traffic.”

Additional information on routes and schedules will be provided once the airlines’ scheduling and ticketing systems have been integrated.
