Indra Wins Major Radar Contract for Polish Air Force

Our Bureau - : Sep 5, 2024 - : 10:12 pm

Indra has secured a significant contract with Poland’s Ministry of Defence to supply up to 15 transportable radar systems for air traffic control at military bases across the country. This deal is one of Europe’s largest ground radar contracts this year and aims to enhance the operational capability of the Polish Air Force.

The agreement, finalised with the Polish Armaments Agency, includes the delivery of the initial eight systems by 2028, with the option to extend the contract for an additional seven systems until 2031.

Indra competed with several major international companies for this contract, demonstrating its position as a leading global supplier of military and dual-use radar systems. The radar systems will be equipped with advanced technology to track aircraft in 3D and distinguish between friendly and enemy aircraft, even under challenging conditions.

The systems feature a solid-state design with electronic components that enhance transmission and reception efficiency. They are capable of operating in environments affected by interference from terrain, weather, countermeasures, or reflections from wind turbines. The radars include a weather channel to guide aircraft away from storms and offer high operational availability with remote monitoring for continuous operation.

This contract aligns with Europe’s broader trend of upgrading defence capabilities with advanced technology. Air bases are crucial for national air defence, and Indra’s systems will provide improved situational awareness for aircraft approaches, landings, and take-offs, ensuring smooth air operations and rapid response to potential threats.

The radar systems, which include transportable towers and antennas, offer flexibility in deployment and are interoperable with allied air forces. They also comply with NATO standards, enhancing air safety by integrating data with civilian air traffic control systems.

Indra’s radar technology is also used across several European countries, including the UK, France, Germany, Portugal, Denmark, and Lithuania. In Poland, Indra has previously worked on modernising air traffic management with PANSA and has collaborated on maritime traffic systems and satellite communications with various local and international partners.
