Our Bureau - : Feb 10, 2025 - : 11:06 pm

Air New Zealand has become a member of the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA), the organisation announced today.

AAPA Director General Subhas Menon welcomed the airline’s inclusion, stating, “We are delighted that Air New Zealand is joining AAPA. Air New Zealand’s important role in connecting New Zealand to the world and its strong international outlook will reinforce the collective advocacy of airlines in the Asia Pacific region in areas such as sustainability, supply chain recovery and smooth cross border travel.”

Air New Zealand Chief Executive Officer Greg Foran highlighted the benefits of membership, saying, “Aviation is a complex and evolving industry, with airlines around the world navigating similar challenges and opportunities in the coming decades. Joining the AAPA will ensure we can share learnings with our regional counterparts, to ensure a thriving Asia Pacific aviation industry into the future.”

The AAPA represents scheduled international airlines based in the Asia Pacific region. Its headquarters are in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with international offices in Brussels and Washington, D.C. Airlines in the region account for more than a third of global passenger and air cargo traffic.

Air New Zealand, which began operations in 1940 with flights between Auckland and Sydney, operates a fleet that includes Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, Airbus A320s, ATRs, and Q300s. In 2023, it carried over 16 million passengers. The airline was named the world's safest in 2024 by AirlineRatings.com and has held New Zealand’s top corporate reputation ranking for nine consecutive years.
