Our Bureau - : Feb 11, 2025 - : 11:30 am

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has rebranded its Hindustan Jet Trainer (HJT-36), which was earlier known as the ‘Sitara’. The Intermediate Jet Trainer (IJT) will now be called as Yashas with the new name being unveiled at the ongong airshow. “The large-scale changes to the baseline intermediate training platform has led to significant upheaval in its capabilities and hence provided an opportunity for a new name to be given in accordance with the aircraft's continued relevance as a training system for modern military aviation. In light of this, HJT-36 is named Yashas”, said Dr D K Sunil, CMD, HAL. In a company release, the airframer said that the aircraft had been renamed after receiving extensive modifications to resolve departure characteristics and spin resistance throughout the aircraft envelope.
