its total orders for the type to 131 aircraft - 45 A220-100s and 86
A220-300. Delta has reordered the A220 five times and is now
Airbus’ largest A220 customer and operator in the world. The
U.S. carrier was the first to take delivery of the A220, receiving
its first aircraft in October 2018.
Another important customer for the type is Australia’s Qantas
Group, which recently finalised an incremental order for nine
A220-300s, bringing its total backlog for the type to 29 aircraft.
Qantas is to take delivery of its first A220 by the end of this year
and will operate the type primarily on its extensive domestic route
network. Qantas originally selected the A220 as part of a major
fleet replacement programme announced in May 2022, which
also included orders for the A321XLR and A350-1000.
