ADA Eyes 2028 Certification Date for LCA AF MK2

Our Bureau - : Feb 11, 2025 - : 11:10 am

The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) is targeting a certification date of 2028 for its 18-tonne class LCA AF Mk2, Dr. V Madhusudana Rao, Project Director (LCA AF MK2) told GBP Daily News. The new medium fighter is being developed by ADA as a replacement for the IAF’s MiG-29, Mirage 2000, and Jaguar fighters, which are due for retirement in the next decade. The LCA AF Mk2 was first unveiled at Aero India 2019 and will be powered by a single higher thrust GE F414 INS-6 engine. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is working to conclude a license-production agreement for the engines in India, with GE Aerospace. The LCA AF Mk2 will feature an Infra-Red Search and Track (IRST) sensor, Missile Approach Warning System (MAWS), upgraded Digital Flight Control Computer (DFCC), on-board oxygen generating system, Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar and have a smart cockpit with large area displays. The fighter will have 11 weapons carriage stations (8 wing stations, two under-engine stations and one centre-line station). It is being designed to be able to carry almost all new generation weapons in the IAF inventory, including long-range stand-off weapons.
