Belgian Defence has placed an order for six R7 Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) from Exail. These unmanned underwater vehicles are set to bolster the Belgian Armed Forces’ capabilities for underwater explosive ordnance (EOD) inspection and disposal, enhancing security for harbours, coastal areas, ships, and critical infrastructures.

This order from a nation renowned for its expertise in underwater operations, confirms the R7’s capabilities for critical infrastructure protection, explosive ordnance disposal and inspection missions up to 300m depth. “Said Nicolas Astruc, Managing Director of ROV at Exail.

The R7 ROV boasts cost-efficiency, compactness, and versatility, allowing for easy deployment and operation from small boats like RHIBs or shore stations. With the capability to accommodate a robotic arm and various payloads, it is designed to be highly adaptable for diverse missions.
For EOD neutralization tasks, the R7 can be equipped with a specialised payload featuring a neutralization charge. It ensures precise positioning through integrated INS, DVL, and USBL sensors, complemented by a multibeam sonar and Orphie 12S camera for accurate target detection and identification, even in challenging conditions.
