Rheinmetall has secured a contract to supply a NATO member in Europe with multiple rocket launcher ammunition. Deliveries are scheduled from 2024 to 2027. The contract, confirmed in December 2023, signifies a sales volume exceeding €300 million for the company, exclusive of value added tax.

Rheinmetall Expal Munitions based in Spain is tasked with manufacturing and delivering the rockets, boasting a maximum range of 300 km. The contract also includes additional services and related systems.

This marks Rheinmetall’s initial achievement in rocket artillery, affirming its recent strategic diversification of product offerings. Recently, on 12th February, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz participated in a ground-breaking ceremony in Unterlüß, Lower Saxony, for a new facility dedicated to producing explosives, artillery ammunition, and rocket artillery components.

Rheinmetall holds a prominent position as a global supplier in artillery systems, including 120mm smoothbore tank ammunition, cannon-based air defence, and medium-calibre ammunition production. With a history spanning over 125 years, the company has consistently served as a dependable partner to the artillery sector, providing seamless barrels for heavy weaponry. Presently, Rheinmetall offers a comprehensive range of ammunition across various calibres.

The recent contracts for artillery rockets and 155mm artillery ammunition underscore Rheinmetall’s technological leadership in ammunition development and production in Europe. Framework agreements for artillery ammunition ensure the reliable fulfilment of the German armed forces and other NATO nations’ requirements. They facilitate improved production planning and optimal utilization of existing resources.
