Our Bureau - : Apr 23, 2024 - : 6:10 pm

Ten people died following a midair collision between an AW139 helicopter and a Fennec helicopter belonging to the Royal Malaysian Navy (Tentera Laut Diraja Malaysia – TLDM) at 09:32 on Tuesday (Apr. 23).

Both helicopters took part in the service’s 90th-anniversary parade at Lumut Base and flew in a tight formation with several other helicopters before dispersing when the incident happened.

The TLDM has released an official statement declaring seven people on board the AW139 and three others on board the Fennec died at the scene and were sent to the Lumut Base Hospital for the identification process.

The statement also noted that the Malaysian Navy will establish an investigation board to find the cause of the incident. Furthermore, the general public is also asked not to distribute videos of incidents to protect the feelings of the families of the victims and help the investigation process.

Further official statements about this incident are expected to be announced in the following days.
