Russian aircraft manufacturer JSC Sukhoi Company intends to establish serial production of an export version of the Su-57 stealth fifth-generation jet fighter.
“The long-term prospects of the company in the market of military aircraft are related to the serial production of the Su-57 (PAK FA, T-50) and its export version, as well as the unmanned aerial systems,” the company said in its annual report for 2019, published on 16 June.
According to the report’s short-term estimation, the share of Russian manufacturers of Su-class fighters will be from 8 percent to 10 percent. This will allow the company to consistently stay in the top five global manufacturers of military aircraft, considering that among the countries most interested in the export of Russian military aircraft are the countries of the Asia-Pacific region, Southeast Asia and North Africa.
The report names American companies Lockheed Martin (F-16, F-35, F-22) and Boeing (F-15, F / A18), as well as the Western European consortium Eurofighter (EF -2000), as the main competitors in the field of military aviation. It mentions the Swedish company SAAB (JAS-39 Gripen), the French Dassault Aviation (Rafale), and the Chinese Chengdu (J-10, J-20, J -31) as competitors in some regional markets, .
The report identifies the foreign competing aircraft that perform similar combat missions. For the Su-35 multi-purpose fighter generation 4 ++, the competitors are F-35, F-15, F / A-18, F-16, Rafale, Typhoon, J-20. Tasks similar to that of the Su-32 / Su-34 fighter-bomber are performed by the F-15E, F / A-18, F-16, F-35A, Rafale and Typhoon. For the promising multi-functional fighter Su-57, the competitors are F-22, F-35, J-20, Rafale, and Typhoon.
For the prospects, the report affirms the necessity to “take into account the general development trends of military aircraft in the world, which society must follow.” Among these trends is the creation of hypersonic combat aviation systems capable of performing combat missions in near space, in dense layers of the atmosphere and under the influence of plasma; increasing the level of intellectualization of aircraft control, the creation of robotic airline complexes, as well as the development of fundamentally new types of aircraft weapons, including high-power lasers.
The Sukhoi Su-57, Russia’s fifth-generation single-seat twin-engine supersonic stealth fighter, is designed to destroy air, ground, and sea targets, in long-range and close combat with overcoming air defense systems. The first production fighter crashed during a test flight in December 2019. At the Army-2019 forum, a contract was signed for deliveries to the Russian Aerospace Forces. According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Russian military should receive 76 Su-57 fighters by 2028 and rearm three aviation regiments on them.
