Turkey’s flag carrier Turkish Airlines’ subsidiary Turkish Technic has completed construction of its new hangars at Istanbul Airport. The facility has an indoor area of 60,000 square meters, thus making it largest such facility in Turkey.
The hangar complex has enough space for technicians to work on three wide-body and six narrow-body aircraft simultaneously. The facility has been built with sustainability in mind, with water requirements met through rainwater harvesting, and energy part-supplied via solar energy. The waste oil removed from aircraft tanks enables the heating system to run on recycled fuel. All elements in and around the facility are managed by smart automation systems.
The facility was built to maximize the technical services the company provide at the Istanbul Airport, which is Turkey’s new aviation hub, said Ahmet Karaman, general manager of Turkish Technic. “We have achieved significant growth with the opening of these base maintenance hangars, where we have welcomed our first customers. Upon the completion of all phases in our MRO complex, we will be able to provide maintenance services to 45 aircraft simultaneously.’’
