Mirola Rescue from Sweden has developed "Fido," a rebreathing device that revolutionises oxygen delivery on the field and complex environments.
Fido is four times smaller and 90% lighter than existing systems on the global market, with double the run time. The device, which is four times smaller and 90% lighter than existing systems on the global market, with double the run time, weighs only 1.5 kg and provides 60 minutes of oxygen treatment with only a 40 centilitres oxygen bottle. With a 5-liter gas cylinder and 200 bar, Fido can provide continuous 12-hour treatment.
According to Christophe Galan, Mirola Rescue Global Development Director, Special Forces and emergency and rescue services around the world have reacted very positively to Fido. Special Forces use the Fido in field-hospitals, on aircraft, in battlefield medic kits, and on naval ships and battlefield vehicles. Galan, who is attending DIMDEX 2024, says he has received positive feedback about the device from military leaders and other participants at the show.
Fido was created to replace old, cumbersome free-flowing oxygen systems with large cylinders, said Galan. "For a long time, the medical oxygen market has needed an oxygen delivery device that is smaller, dramatically more efficient, and more easily deployed in the field in emergencies. Fido has been medically certified by European Union and has received great interest from Special Forces and emergency and rescue services around the world, FIDO is also registered with NATO."
Due to lightweight packaging, Fido is easy to keep mobile. "The device can be used in demanding situations and can be deployed in less than 30 seconds. Several hours of oxygen can be shared by simply splitting the weight of the extra small bottles," said Galan.
