Mexicana de Aviación, Mexico’s state-owned airline, has placed an order for 20 Embraer E2 aircraft, including 10 E190-E2 and 10 E195-E2 jets. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2025. The E190-E2 will feature 108 seats, while the E195-E2 will have 132 seats, both in a single-class configuration.

“We welcome Mexicana to the E2 family, the first E2 operator in Mexico. Seeing the success and rapid growth Mexicana has achieved since it restarted operations in December 2023 has been remarkable,” said Priscilla Doro Solymossy, VP Sales and Marketing, Head of Latin America and the Caribbean at Embraer Commercial Aviation.

“The airline is already flying to 18 destinations, and has transported more than 115,000 passengers, accumulating more than 3,280 flight hours in this short period, reflecting Mexicana’s commitment to operational excellence and customer service,” she added.

This move makes the airline the first operator of the Brazilian company’s aircraft in Mexico, benefiting from the E2’s low operating costs and fuel efficiency. The partnership underscores a commitment to sustainability and aims to enhance the efficiency of aviation operations.

The decision to acquire these aircraft is part of Mexicana’s strategy to modernise and expand its fleet, improving both domestic and international connectivity. The new aircraft will help provide affordable and comfortable air travel while maintaining high safety and service standards.

Mexicana is part of the Olmeca-Maya-Mexica S.A. de C.V. Airport Group, Railway, Auxiliary and Related Services. The airline resumed operations on December 26, 2023, with a focus on enhancing the quality and reach of air services, promoting connectivity, and contributing to national growth, development, and competitiveness.
