Turkish Aerospace Industries Opens Office in Indonesia

Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) has officially inaugurated its new office in Bandung, West Java, on Sunday, 25th August. The company announced that the establishment of this office is aimed at enhancing and developing collaborative projects in the aerospace sector with Indonesia’s state-owned PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI). TAI emphasised that their presence is meant to complement rather than compete with PTDI.

“Indonesia is a huge, vibrant and growing country with its 275 million people here sharing the same values that we have, having a similar history in aviation and having the same goals. We didn’t have any other choice but to be here,” said Mehmet Demiroğlu, CEO of Turkish Aerospace Industries. “When we look at our future growth opportunities, and collaboration opportunities, we have to be here and that’s why we’re here,” he added.

Atilla Dogan, Executive Vice President of Aircraft at Turkish Aerospace, remarked, “In Turkiye, we have reached 80 percent of local contents in defence industry and platform, and we have more than 3,500 companies working for the defence industries focused on building those local contents, (and) collaborating with our brotherly countries.”

The Indonesian branch of TAI, named PT Turkish Aerospace Industries, was established in 2022. The opening of the new office in Bandung has raised hopes that Indonesia might participate in Turkiye’s fifth-generation fighter jet project, which is also being offered to Malaysia.

A recent post on the Indonesian Ministry of Defence’s social media account announced that both countries have signed agreements for the joint development of frigates, helicopters, and fifth-generation combat aircraft.
